Executive Board Statement on LGBTQIA Hate Crime

The Alameda County Democratic Central Committee Executive Board is pained by and mourns the unspeakable, unacceptable, and heartless hate crime and loss of innocent lives that took place over the weekend at Club Q – on Trans Day of Remembrance, no less. We associate ourselves with the statements made by our siblings on the East Bay Stonewall Democratic Club Board and recommit ourselves to their clarion call for LGBTQIA+ justice:

“We call upon Democratic leaders, LGBTQIA+ community members, and allies to connect the dots and protect our communities. To grieve and to get to work. To see the attempts to dehumanize, erase, invalidate, harm, and eliminate trans people as part of a broader attack on LGBTQIA+ communities and our very abilities to live, breathe, love, and exist. To fund organizations serving our communities directly, to back candidates committed to protecting our people, and to root out bigotry from elected office, legislation, classrooms, and community spaces.”

With heavy hearts we recommit ourselves and call on all Democrats to stand up to anti-Queer injustice, no matter who is perpetuating it.
