Summary of Endorsement Rules and Procedures for March 5, 2024 Primary Election

The Endorsement Meeting for this election will be held at Teamsters Local 2010 the evening of January 3, 2024

•    The Alameda County Democratic Party (ACDP) only endorses Democrats; unless an extension is granted by the Chair, a candidate must have been a Democrat as of the opening of filing

•    Candidates must certify having read the platform of the California Democratic Party as it relates to office sought and note any substantive disagreements

•    The ACDP does not endorse more candidates than seats to be filled

•    To be considered for endorsement, a candidate must be nominated for endorsement by two members of the Central Committee

•    Candidates must be nominated for endorsement no later than seven days before the Endorsement Meeting

•    Endorsement is by 60% vote of the members present and voting at the Endorsement Meeting

Candidates will be asked to make opening statements of up to two minutes, followed by a brief question-and-answer period. Questions may be directed to all candidates, to groups of candidates, or to individual candidates. Candidates may be asked to make closing statements of up to one minute if time allows.

In addition to questions on issues specific to the office sought, candidates should be prepared to answer questions in these four general areas:

    1. Why you are running for this office.
    2. Your campaign, especially your budget, including funds raised, and consultants you will use.
    3. Your prominent endorsers, both organizations and individuals.
    4. Your history of involvement with and support for the Democratic Party and its candidates.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to present as much of this information as possible in opening statements and/or printed materials, and should furnish as much information as possible, including ballot statements, at bit.ly/Mar2024Endorse by Friday, December 22.
