Resolution Opposing Expansion of Domestic National Security and Surveillance Powers of the United States Government.

WHEREAS, we strongly oppose expansion of the domestic national security and surveillance powers of the United States government, as a reaction to actions by insurrectionists on January 6 at the U.S. Capitol.

WHEREAS, especially in light of the many issues we are facing, from the rise white supremacy to systemic disregard for communities of color, enacting such laws would have unintended and dire consequences, likely resulting in the and has all likelihood of targeting of progressive groups, and be difficult to undo.

WHEREAS, in the aftermath of 9/11, the USA Patriot Act resulted in an erosion of civil liberties, targeting those who were most vulnerable, especially its effects on our Muslim brothers and sisters.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee urges the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, to defeat this bill once it is introduced.

Respectfully submitted, Austin Tam (AD18), Andrea Luna Bocangera (AD 18), Pamela Drake (AD18), and Andy Kelley (E-Board) (Ad15).
