Hayward, CA – Alameda County Party Chair Robin Torello today condemned the Administration’s action to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and issued the following statement:

“Today’s action by the Trump Administration to end DACA is one of unconscionable cruelty. The Democratic Party has long called for a path to full citizenship for the undocumented. Alameda County Democrats proudly stand with DREAMers in support of their right to stay in our country until a pathway to citizenship can be established.

The action initiated by Trump and Attorney General Sessions is a crass ploy to shore up their base while passing the buck to Congress, ending DREAMers opportunity to realize the American dream they’ve worked so hard for.

Almost half the DREAMers at risk live here in California. The vast majority are productive, hardworking people who live, work and attend school in our communities, adding $11 billion a year to our state economy. Their loss is our loss.

We call on Congress to reject this heartless and craven action and pass the DREAM Act without delay to provide full citizenship for these 800,000 strong DREAMers.

While we march with our neighbors in peaceful protest of the Trump Administration’s action, our activism should not end in the streets. We ask everyone to reach out to their local Members of Congress and urge them to move this legislation forward so we can turn this travesty into something positive, granting U.S. citizenship to these young people once and for all.”
