CalPERS Resolution

Adopted by the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee Wednesday, April 2, 2014

WHEREAS, California’s taxpayer-funded pension fund, CalPERS, the largest public pension fund in the nation, has invested more than $25 million in the companies and MegaFon, which directly support the Russian internet company that has allowed Occupy Pedophilia to post videos of LGBT teenagers being kidnapped, tortured and beaten; and

WHEREAS, these videos encourage copycat attacks on LGBT youth and put youth in further danger by outing them to their families and anti-LGBT gangs in Russia; and

WHEREAS, CalPERS says it condemns what is happening in Russia, but continues to provide money to businesses that are profiting from the torture of LGBT youth, and if CalPERS instead divests, it will send a powerful message to these companies that profit will not blind us to these hate crimes.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that California’s pension system CalPERS pull its investments from these companies and MegaFon, and immediately and publicly condemn the actions of these hate groups. We cannot let California pension funds enable the kidnapping, beatings and torture of Russian LGBT youth.

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the California Democratic Party shall send copies of this resolution to Governor Brown and every member of the California State Legislature to encourage them to urge CalPERS to divest from these companies.
